This weekend the Coven of the Silver Birch attended Wiccanfest! A couple of our members headed up for the whole week, and the rest met up with the others on Friday. The weekend involved meeting some amazing people, attending workshops and great rituals, lots of drumming and dancing to the Dragon Ritual Drummers (our favourites), as well as seeing some familiar faces and old friends. We camped out, and the weather was hot and muggy, so the weekend also involved a lot of swimming. It was a truly fantastic weekend and we can't wait for the next big festival. Many pictures have been taken, and hopefully will be posted soon.!

On Sunday members of Silver Birch attended Caer Avalon's Beltaine ritual. It was a lovely ritual, as always, and Jessica, one of our honourary members, and the maintainer of our website, was chosen as May Queen! Congrats Jess! It was a great night, although somewhat sad, as we had to say goodbye to our other honourary member, Rachel, as she is going home for the summer today. Also, it was the last Caer Avalon event for Cally, who is off to France for a year come the middle of June. Despite this, and despite the chill, everyone had a wondeful time. Heather was chosen to dance around the May Pole! The night concluded with a feast, and people walking between the two sacred fires for good luck. We cannot wait for the next Caer Avalon event! Pictures will be posted soon, so keep an eye out!

This Saturday Silver Birch had a very productive coven meeting. We had our long-anticipated fire ritual, which went very well. (And may I say that the fire took quite a liking to us too!)We also set a date for our much anticipated Goddess Ritual, which will be held at the end of April for our female Pagan friends. We're greatly looking forward to it! The next few meetings we will focus on energy work.

On Saturday Silver Birch went to the Canadian Aboriginal Festival. It was a great time, and very interesting. There were games, crafts, and traditional dancing, which was fantastic to see. We also spent some time cruising the vendor tables and looking at traditional Native American crafts, art, and clothing. It truly was an extraordinary experience!

This past weekend Silver Birch hosted our Samhain Feast of the Dead! It was a truly spooky affair, and fun. Lots of friends were there as we celebrated a silent feast and small ritual to honour those who have passed on before us. The event was celebrated at the house of Amelia, and we are sure that there were many guests there who did not receive written invitations! There was a costume contest and apple-finding, and much fun. Thanks for everyone who attended for making it such a great night!

This weekend members of Silver Birch Alix, Amelia, Heather, and Samantha were at Harvest fest! It was the most amazing thing ever and we all had a great time. The weather was cold but it didn't really matter because around the big bonfire it was hot. There were vendors, workshops, drumming circles, a spectacular ritual in which we burned the Harvest King, and people danced around the fire all night long. We were out there dancing with them until about 4am! The people there were extremely nice and we met quite a few new friends. We also ran into some old friends from Toronto rituals. We were very sad to see it end, and can't wait until Wiccan fest in June! Oh, and a MAJOR thank you to our good friend Cally for providing us with transportation!

This Sunday the coven held a dedication ritual for Amelia. It was the first official coven meeting since the summer and we took the opportunity to do a lot of planning for the year. We have a lot of great ideas and goals and we're excited for what we're going to be doing. The dedication ritual was lovely, and we're thrilled to welcome Amelia as out newest dedicated member! Also, last night members of Silver Birch attended Caer Avalon's Mabon ritual. It was beautiful as always, but we're sad that that was the last ritual of the light half of the year, and that we have to wait until Beltaine for their next one. The ritual included a small feast and swap for anyone who wanted to donate anything Pagan. It was a great night!

On Saturday members of Silver Birch attended the Toronto Pagan Pride Day. Although it started out slow, a good crowd showed up and it was nice to meet some people and see some old faces, and just spend the day hanging out with a bunch of Pagans in the park! Heather and Amelia brought their violins and played for friends throughout the day. They also won a prize in the bardic competition! There were interesting workshops, a ritual of course, and lots of drumming and dancing (our favourite part!) The weather was beautiful and we all had a lot of fun, as we always do at Pagan Pide. As always, can't wait until next year!

Yesturday the Coven of the Silver Birch went to the Renaissance Festival! It was a long day, as we got there for the opening ceremonies, and did not leave until closing. It was a perfect day to spend outside, and the festival was tons of fun. There were tons of vendors selling all sorts of Pagan and Renaissance paraphernalia that you just couldn't resist. There were also games and sports that one could try. A couple of members tried their hands at archery. There were shows being put on all day, and the favourites of the day turned out to be the jousting, and the falconry show that also included a vulture and a three-month-old great horned owl. Silver Birch came away with a great experience and a lot of suff! Hope to see you there next year!

This weekend, members of Silver Birch attended Caer Avalon's Lughnasadh ritual. The weather was beautiful and the ritual (as always) was lovely. It was a very intimate group that got together to celebrate the First Harvest, and the Blue Moon. The ritual included divination and a feast, and the evening was filled with lots of laughs and fun. We can't wait until Mabon!

Yesterday Alix was initiated into the coven in a lovely morning cerimony. It was the first full meeting we had had in a few weeks and it was a lot of fun. The ritual was very nice and it ended with each member toasting Alix and personaly welcoming her as an official initiated member of the coven. Today, members Heather and Amelia attended the Gay Pride Parade. Even though it was hot and increadibly crowded we had a lot of fun, the floats were awsome and hilarious and the people were friendly. There were floats representing all kinds of different groups and so we decided that next Pride there needs to be a float from the Pagans of Toronto! We're going to try to pitch this idea to some people and who knows, next year maybe you'll see us riding in the parade!

Today members of the Silver Birch had our own special Midsummer ritual. Samantha, Heather and Amelia went to a beautiful ravene that made us feel like we had stepped right into Scotland. It was a bit rainy but as soon as we found a spot and started the ritual the sun came out to shine on our circle. The ritual went quite well and we followed it up with some divination, to see what the summer would bring us. It was a lovely conclusion to a series of Midsummer celebrations.

Happy Midsummer everyone! Members of Silver Birch had a very productive day yesturday in celebration of Litha. The day began with Samantha and Heather waking up at 5:30am to go with Sam's family to a Native American powwow sunrise cerimony. We greeted our Grandfather the sun and were told some fantastic aboriginal tales. It was quite fascinating and we especially enjoyed the part when everyone went around the circle greeting everyone else, until we had met everyone at least twice. It is a very interesting culture that the coven would like to learn more about. That evening, Samantha, Heather and Alix went to Caer Avalon's Midsummer ritual. It was a lot of fun and the weather couldn't have been better. The ritual was beautiful and there was a feast and dancing afterwards. We can't wait for Caer Avalon's next sabbat! Tomorrow members of the coven will be having our own Midsummer ritual which should be a lot of fun!

On Saturday, May 8, Stephanie was dedicated into the coven with a special ritual held just for her. During the ritual, each member lit a candle with her offering her words of wisdom and blessings for her journey as they welcomes her in with open arms.

Afterwards, the coven lounged around in Samantha's house to watch Ever After while Sam gave tarot readings and her mother gave spiritual readings.

That date also marked the last coven meeting with one of the founding members Raven.

Sunday, March 28, 2004

The episode of Planet Parent with Samantha, her family, and Raven was filmed yesterday at Samantha's house. The taping included a mock full moon ritual with Samantha's family, interviews with Samantha, her mother, and Raven, and a Tarot reading.

Although a hectic shoot with plenty of equipment set up, plenty of people and family pets running about, and the time it took to shoot, reshoot, and set up, it was definitely a fun time and proved to be a great way of getting the public aware of Pagan parenting, the coven, and the general idea that Paganism and Wicca is nothing to be feared.

The episode will air sometime in September on TVO, the exact airdate will be available soon.

Members of the coven celebrated Ostara by first attending a Meet and Greet brunch held by Caer Avalon, being able to interact with members of one of Toronto's major Pagan groups turned out to be much fun, as inticipated. During that time, ideas commenced to spring forth about a coven logo to be made into pendants for each initiated member of the coven. More details on this as they develop.

Later on, the coven members made their way over to the Wiccan Church of Canada for their open Ostara ritual. The ritual honored the essence of Ostara by symbolically sowing the seeds of inspiration that people would like to see manifest in their lives in the near future. It was a very exhilerating experience, high energy and quite powerful. Meeting up with friends of the coven, the members broke bread later on in a potluck feast to ground the raised energy before heading home.

All in all, a very joyous Ostara experience.
